As most food lovers will know, The Good Food show has opened once again at the NEC Birmingham for its winter show. Besides giving a vast variety of different foods from all around the globe, the show offers a range of drinks from flavoured water to much stronger beverages. Although food and drink are definitely at the centre of the show, there are also stalls showing kitchen utensils of all shapes, sizes and uses! Katie and Lou went along on Friday 28th November to have an explore and to pick out the star attractions.
By the time we had navigated our way through the maze that is the NEC, it was safe to say we had worked up an appetite! Upon spending the afternoon at the Good Food Show we established our favourite stalls, whether they stood out to us for uniqueness, price or great taste. Here is the list of our top products and a little bit about each:
1. The Diablo Toasted Sandwich Maker
This circular toastie maker cooks a sandwich in approximately 3 minutes over the hob with whatever filling you wish. Being an alternative to a standard toastie maker or George Foreman grill we really liked the idea of this hand-held devise! It’s easy to clean (dishwasher friendly) and surprisingly light to hold! Some of the filling suggestions that we found intriguing were poached egg, curry and the dessert option of fruit with pastry instead of bread. These toasties are the perfect size and ideal for a student meal.
2. Russell Hobbs Mix & Go
This blender is the ideal utensil for those of you with a busy schedule! It is compact and blends ingredients in less than a minute whether it’s for a smoothie, soup or even a protein shake. The blender itself is compact and comes with two bottles. You only have to connect the bottle to the blender, add your ingredients, blend them, then detach the bottle and take it wherever you need to go! We tried a sample smoothie at the stall and couldn’t resist buying one ourselves. For only £12 you can’t go wrong, especially if you need a quick energy boost in the middle of a long day!
3. Joe & Seph’s Gourmet Popcorn
Being massive popcorn fans ourselves, this stall was a dream come true! There was a ridiculous array of unique flavours including strawberries & cream, gingerbread, caramel & whisky, and our personal favourite – toffee apple & cinnamon. ‘Gourmet Popcorn’ definitely describes it best and although £3 for a bag is slightly pricey, it is definitely worth it for a treat!
4. D’mix Digestif Tea
For those of you that suffer from IBS, bloating, indigestion and food intolerances amongst other problems, d’mix could be the solution you need. It is award winning tea and is especially made to detox and improve digestion. It teaches the brain and body how to break down food properly and supports re-growth of the stomach and colon lining. A two month course is recommended to repair your whole digestive system and we’d say it is definitely worth a try!
