Damon Albarn has an extensive musical CV; frontman of Blur and main songwriter and vocalist of Gorillaz. Not to mention the number of side projects he has been involved in: including ‘The Good, the Bad & the Queen’, working with African music when he visited Mali and ‘Rocket Jucie & the Moon’, a collaboration with Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ bassist, Flea. Damon Albarn releases the title track of his upcoming solo album ‘Everyday Robots’. In several interviews, he has stated that the album is very autobiographical and focuses on nature versus technology which becomes apparent in the lyrics of this single.
‘Everyday Robots’ takes on the style of Gorillaz. Soothing yet haunting with high-pitched synth line, it critiques our society “we are everyday robots on our phones”. You just need to look around you on the platform at Selly Oak station to see what he means. Albarn is clearly a talented and rare artist and the single gives a good indication of what to expect in the album, full of influences of his past work but a separate album in its own right.
Everyday Robots is set for release on 28 April 2014
