Birmingham 2nds extended their lead at the top of the league after a stunning second-half fightback against Cambridge. The final score was 14-9 after Birmingham scored 8 unanswered goals in the final stages of the match to secure a vital victory against the 2nd placed Cambridge team.
Cambridge got off to flying start taking a 3-1 lead in the game. Birmingham seemed unable to deal with the quick fire passing around the goal. However, Birmingham were able to hit them on the break a few times but continued to look powerless to stop the Cambridge onslaught. Two brilliant first half goals from Milly Fletcher gave them a foothold in the game and the half-time score read 6-4 to Cambridge.
The second-half began in similar fashion to the first, with a fast start by Cambridge taking 9-6 early on the half. It at this point that the girls showed why they are top of the league this season, they dug deep and produced a remarkable comeback. The team rallied around their captain Anna Doyle who scored a stunning goal during the fightback, and it wasn’t long until the equaliser came from Poppy Day.
Birmingham took the lead soon after bringing the score level and it was done in some style. They were ruthless going forward and clinical in their finishing. Although it wasn’t all down to the attacking play. The defence held strong and did not allow Cambridge out of their own half.
