Birmingham went into the game sitting comfortably second in the league as they are yet to lose a match, whereas Leicester began the day in 3rd.
Less than five minutes into the match second-row Gemma Reynard, had to come off due to injury with what looked like a broken nose. It was an injury that marker a brutal start to the game.
Not long after we saw a fantastic try by full-back Zoe Bennion, she managed to break away from the line up and scored an excellent right wing try. The conversion however unfortunately was missed due to Birmingham’s current lack of a kicker so the score stood at 5-0.
About half way into the first half of the match and another great try from Birmingham’s Ellie Buck. She made an excellent play down the left wing, incredibly fast drive that Leicester couldn’t keep up with. Unfortunately the conversion was missed again as the try was scored right in the corner, bringing the score to 10-0 to Birmingham. Player of the half had to go to Zoe Bennion, she worked incredibly hard to score the first try which really set the team up for the win.
The start of the second half saw another great try by Birmingham’s Ellie Buck, the team’s speed really left Leicester in the dust. Again, unfortunately the conversion was missed, but not after another great effort from Zoe Bennion, acting as kicker for the match. The score stood at 20-0 to Birmingham.
Another five minutes saw the score soar to 27-0 as Zoe Bennion scored another fantastic try and made the conversion this time too, which the crowd greatly appreciated. Shortly after we witnessed a magical try by substitute Chrissie Hanson on the right wing, who sprinted past the crowd, dodged not one but two Leicester players and made the try, absolutely incredible! This took the score to the final score of 32-0. The girls can come away with their heads held high as they are yet to lose a game, this has set them up very well for the rest of the season. Well done girls!!
