This match report is brought to you by the victorious Korfball team.
On Sunday 25th of October, UoB 3’s had a convincing victory 32-3 against De Montfort University 2’s in Leicester. An impressive first game for three debutants in the team, Ella Howells scoring 6, Megan Royle with 5 and Josh Ball with 2.
UoB looked cool, calm and collected with every player contributing to the score line. Considering this was the first time the team had played together, spirits were high and communication was strong. Confident in attack, shots were flowing and it was not long before UoB reaped the benefits of a powerful attack. Jacob Warner was offering some striking long shots whilst Megan was deceptive in securing multiple runners. Defensively the score is testament to the quality of the defence and in particular Oliver Saville’s outrageous rate of interception in the collect position. It was clear from the first half that UoB were on top.
Notably the defence was robust from UoB as De Montfort came back fighting in the second half with a full team. However this did not faze UoB, as Amy Baker showed her experience intercepting the ball before it even made it to the rest of the division, Ella continued to elegantly add more goals to her collection and Korfball freshers Josh and George Saville playing some classic Korfball in defence. Charlotte Reed had the opportunity to add to the score in the second half with 2 easy goals. Despite the large score line the team were not complacent and continued to play some good korfball to win the game deservedly.
The final score was 32-3 and was hopefully the first of many victories for University of Birmingham Korfball 3’s.
Scorers:
