On Monday 21st March the National Badminton League hits Birmingham with some action at UoB’s very own Great Hall!
It’s match night six of the NBL, and the Birmingham Lions will take on Surrey Smashers. The Birmingham Lions currently sit third in the league with 11 points. Their opponents Surrey Smashers sit in fifth, with 7 points and just one win to their name so far.
On match-day 5 (8th Feb) – Birmingham lost, but picked up 2 vital points in a 3-2 defeat away at league leaders Loughborough, with the men’s doubles partnership of Gary Fox / Keon Ridder, and Toby Penty in the men’s singles picking up the points. Fontaine Chapman however lost her game 3-2 in the woman’s singles, having won every game up until that point in the competition this year.
Last time the Great Hall played host to an NBL fixture in match week two the Lions roared to a 3-2 victory over Nottingham, with singles stars Fontaine Chapman, England’s top ranked female singles player, and Toby Penty, the Lions captain playing a vital role.
