It was a nail biting back and forth affair between UoB and Worcester this bitter Wednesday. Despite Worcester maintaining their lead throughout much of the game, the Brummie boys maintained a high level of pressure to close the gap to as little as one point in the pinnacle moments.
Birmingham got off to a fantastic start by being the first to put points on the board within seconds of the game starting and kept a strong defence throughout the first quarter. In the last seconds of the first quarter, the number 5 scored an amazing and flawless 3 pointer completing a great run, dodging 2 defenders in order to leave the score at a close 23-28 which put the team’s spirit and stance in a great position to continue as they were the first scorers of the second quarter as well.
Worcester were a very strong team throughout being equally positioned against Birmingham in the league table prior to this match (joint 2nd), but they had a greater accuracy in the scoring end with some amazing points from their number 1. The team showed great communication across the court shown by their tactical positioning and team play getting the ball towards the points zone.
The end of the match was overall the most exciting with Birmingham constantly decreasing the gap between the teams right down to 70-71. With 15 seconds left on the clock, the high intensity was met with loud vocal support from team mates and spectators on the side which really put pressure on the Lion’s opposition making them miss a free throw. Despite this last stance fight maintained till the very end it was Worcester who got the final points leaving the score a commendable 70-74 defeat of Birmingham.
This may not be the result that UoB wanted but they put on a fiery and determined play which was very clinical. Going ahead they need to put this loss behind them and continue with such fantastic game play. By being able to close such a gap clearly demonstrates their abilities and next week they will surely come out victorious. Good luck boys!
