Having seen the Rugby league side earlier this season, I was joined by Head of Sport Matt Bullin for what we hoped to be another enthralling match at the Bournbrook sport pitches. The game began with early points on the board for Nottingham after their winger picked up the ball in Nottingham’s final phase and sprinted down the touchline, beating 3 Birmingham players with ease.
Nottingham then scored another a few minutes later as the winger picked up a great box kick from the scrum half to take advantage of a gap in Birminghams defence.
For the rest of the 1st half Birmingham were unable to score and the score was 16-0. Birmingham hadn’t been bad in the 1st half however the difference between the teams was Nottingham’s number 2, due to his raw pace and ability to see gaps in the Bulls defence.
The second half was much like the 1st in terms of gameplay. Nottingham, however, were unable to play in their star winger as much. To add to this Birmingham began to miss a few tackles and this was capitalised on by a clinical Nottingham side. Birmingham had chances, but just couldn’t capitalise the way that Nottingham did. They did score 2 tries however, but the game finished 40-8.
Birmingham shouldn’t be too disappointed with this result, as they were playing against an unbeaten Nottingham side. Their form will need to improve though if they want to to climb up from 5th place in the table.
