A motorist will serve 14 months in prison for dangerous driving, after a high-speed police chase ended up in Selly Oak.
Yassir Ali, 29, led officers on a dangerous route, driving on the wrong side of the road and reaching speeds of up to 80mph.
After going through two sets of red lights, the car he was driving eventually came to a halt on Bristol Road, on the pavement between Harrow Road and Dawlish Road, where bollards outside shop fronts blocked his path.
Police had originally stopped the BMW 1 Series car, but in an extraordinary turn of events, a passenger exited, and appeared to try and obstruct the officers, as Ali then drove off.
The vehicle is believed to have been stolen nearby on Weoley Castle Road, in February this year.
PC Neal Drew, from the Central Motorway Police, said that “by driving the way he did, he put innocent members of the public at risk”.
“We take this kind of dangerous driving extremely seriously, and that has been reflected in the lengthy sentence handed down by the courts.”
Footage of the incident has been provided by West Midlands Police.
