Birmingham Promoters are certainly putting on a spread at the Bristol Pear on Thursday. In the dawn of a new era for this gig venue, Manchester’s Young Monarchs and friends take to the upstairs room to put on a spectacle.
Coming together from Jersey and small towns all over the UK and Jersey, Thursday’s headliners Young Monarchs blend driving guitar parts with powerful vocals and shed light on the emotional vulnerability of young people in their lyrics. Expect an explosive and emotional performance that combines their classical, contemporary and jazz backgrounds, to ultimately make them stand them out from the crowd.
Spilt Milk Society have caused quite a buzz on the Birmingham music scene in recent years, having earned airtime on Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 6 Music. They were also hand picked by Steve Lamacq to play on the BBC Introducing stage at the Great Escape Festival and have supported the likes of Superfood, Fickle Friends, Tender and Marsicans. Look out for the powerful choruses and hypnotising synthetic sounds.
Portobello by now are staples of the Selly Oak music scene having graced ValeFest 2018 and its earlier Launch Party. They’ve honed their funk, soul-based sound over the last year into something truly unique, and with a debut EP incoming imminently, expect Tom Misch vibes and a good time.
Opening the event are Thai Brides, a group of students from Birmingham who will be bringing hectic pop to the Pear. Meanwhile closing off the night will be a DJ set from Bread on Toast, if that all wasn’t enough for you.
Grab your tickets now from www.birminghampromoters.com and head down for 7:30pm on the 22nd Nov, see you there.
