Netball Women’s Twos Dominate Bath in the Cup and Progress to the Next Round
Birmingham got off to a very slow start, as Bath took a 0-4 lead at the start of the first quarter. Bath’s opening play was very easy on the eye, and their goal shooter’s unconventional shooting style was causing Birmingham’s defence problems.
Birmingham did manage to score twice to bring it back to 2-4, but Bath quickly took back the momentum and made it 2-6. Birmingham did manage to get the score back to 5-7 before the end of the first quarter, but Bath rallied to make it 6-11 at the quarter and it looked like Bath could run away with it.
What happened at the start of the second quarter was the perfect response from Birmingham, who scored three unanswered goals at the start of the second quarter to bring it back to 9-11. There was then an extremely close period of play, before Birmingham capitalised, taking the lead with one minute left on the clock. They then continued to press and earned a two point lead at the half. 21-19.
From the start of the third quarter, it was clear that Birmingham ere now in the driving seat. The home crowd was getting behind them, and they never looked like letting Bath back into it. Four more unanswered points at the start of the 3rd gave the lionesses a six point lead, which they maintained for much of the quarter, going in at 36-32.
Birmingham dominated again in the final quarter and never looked like letting it slip. At one point they had a seven point lead, and were cruising. Final score, 50-43. A dominant comeback from the 2s and they progress in the cup.
